Planet Zoo 2 day-one launch checklist

Updated 2026-10-04

On this page

Planet Zoo 2 releases October 13, 2026. This checklist is built from what Planet Zoo 1 taught its community — the structural lessons that carry into any Frontier management sequel — and will be updated with hands-on notes at launch.

Before you start

  1. Update your GPU drivers. Planet Zoo 1 was sensitive to outdated drivers at launch; a management sim with thousands of animated guests and animals will stress both CPU and GPU.
  2. Clear disk space. Check the Steam page for the final install size on launch day (not yet published as of this writing).
  3. Skim the settings menu first. Planet Zoo 1 shipped with extensive camera, interface, and accessibility options — the Steam page already confirms adjustable text size, color alternatives, and camera comfort options for the sequel.

Your first session

  1. Start with a small zoo, not a dream zoo. The classic PZ1 mistake: building huge before the economy stabilizes. Start compact, learn the new systems, expand later.
  2. Learn the new water and flight systems early. Fully aquatic and flying species are the headline new mechanics (official description) — expect new habitat tooling. Do a small aquatic habitat early to learn the system while stakes are low.
  3. Watch animal welfare indicators from minute one. In PZ1, welfare drove everything: guest happiness, donations, conservation rating. Expect the same core loop.
  4. Do not ignore staff. Understaffing was the silent zoo-killer in PZ1. Hire ahead of need, not behind it.

What we will add at launch

This page becomes a tested, step-by-step first-day route once the game is out — with real numbers instead of PZ1-derived expectations. Bookmark it.
